But I'm not interested in what happens in two years, I'm interested in now. Yeah i'm sorry but that's a really average view in a sport that's completely run by PSR now. We can't be signing 30 plus year olds with no likelihood of receiving a profit/even the same money back on them in the future. Yes it makes the scouting teams job harder to find something similar but thats the nature of the sport now from Premier League down. Its a good job the likes of Man Utd have such high revenues from past success as signing the likes of Casemiro etc would have gone absolutely terrible for them. As I said, I'm not interested in what happens in two years. I'm interested in now. For too long this club has signed "players for the future", and kicked the can down the road season after season, failing to address the issues that are staring them in the face. This season, midfield-aside, has been no different. Luckily, we've got a manager who knows what he's doing and has a history of doing well with unfashionable sides, so we might be okay. But anyone that has watched the games this season know that we're crying out for a goalscorer and a centre-half. We look like we'll be signing neither.

Out of interest has he? He's brought in quite a few free transfers and we paid for fee for Sorensen but considering what we will have recouped for Rudoni and Thomas I wouldn't say the manager has been 'backed' at all this window. Thankfully we have a really good grounded manager who appears to be getting positive outcomes out of our current squad. Some praise deserved for that appointment. We definitely need a few new faces in. No excuses now, they gave it the big one on diaries at the start of the summer and throughout the summer. Actions speak louder than words so let's hope they back it up now as after a brilliant start it would be a shame to stuff momentum. The window beginning to look like January, in that we have brought players in but not quite in the positions required. We seem to have made one quality signing in Sorensen and because the January window was so poor and we are now at a lower level we look better in midfield than we did last season. We still seem to struggle to find our passing range. Miller? Marshall 2 goals in 3 games?

Alfie May has scored in all 3 league games so far this season...earning Birmingham 5 points... Huddersfield Town have scored more than the opposition in all 3 league games so far....earning themselves 9 points. More than 21 other teams in the league and only 2 other clubs with the same number of points. Marshall scored on his first league start...earning Town 3 points. A better rate per start or goals per minute that May. Ben Wiles has scored in the first 2 matches of the season, earning Huddersfield Town 6 points....A better return as a Midfielder than striker Alfie May Danny Ward has not scored in any of Huddersfield Town's league games this season....Yet Huddersfield Town are higher in the league than Birmingham City and currently sitting in an automatic promotion spot. Huddersfield Town, without Alfie May, are currently doing better than Birmingham. But yeah, let's make a point about a striker that's not ours, that plays at a club below us in the league table.

'Gave it the big one'? I am sure that if Cartwright and co go to Nagle with a player they want, Nagel will give them the okay. Being 'backed' and throwing stupid money is different. Take Alfie May for example, do you think Duff should have been 'backed' and we pay what Brum were offering him? Or would you say that would be throwing money stupidly? Considering, on promotion, it then impacts FFP restrictions. Yes. If you want a proven goalscorer, be prepared to pay the going rate. I'd rather have Alfie May on stupid money scoring a load of goals, than Danny Ward/Kian Harratt/Rhys Healey/Bojan Radulovic getting eight between them. Completely agree, I've said this before. The excuse was we didn't want to upset the other players by paying May more wages. Well the other players helped us get relegated so if they want more money they need to do better. I'd sooner pay May 16k a week than have 4 poor strikers whose wages combined add up to more than that.

Huge difference between PH and KN. Out of interest what's that then? Always interested to hear opinions on this. Sartorial elegance for a start. I can't imagine Kev wearing a shirt as abominable as THAT monstrosity in Phil's interview at the start of the playoff season.

Feel like I'm very much in the minority here but I don't understand the level of clamour for another striker, relative to other positions. It's dominating the chat on here when we have 4 forwards who can evidently do a job at this level, plus Bojan to throw into the mix when he's back from injury.
Meanwhile we have no cover at all for Sorensen at right wing back, and no left footed centre back. Sorensen gets injured and we could be in trouble. For what it's worth I think we could muddle along with the current defenders and still do very well, as much as they've not looked completely convincing, they've yet to concede from open play, and we have cover.

Don’t disagree but is “do a job” enough for promotion? I think it's borderline- Marshall looks a great find and could score a hatful if he keeps it up and can last the season, Koroma and Healey will get 10 or 12 each, possibly more for Healey if he stays fit, Ward is past it and will only get a handful at most, Bojan should keep him out of the squad when fit and score a few. Wiles and Evans will continue to chip in with a few, as will centre backs from set pieces. If I was Cartwright I'd be prioritising those other two positions and, if we need, looking at an extra striker in January to be honest. Unless Duff wanted me to prioritise another striker that is.

Let's be deluded and think Town are going to finish above Birmingham and Danny Ward is going to score 30 goals....... Never said Ward was gonna score 30 goals. I've consistently said he's not good enough....Even said it to his brother-in-law, who's a massive Town fan, when I saw him last. Why are we not going to finish above Birmingham? They got a late penalty to get a point against 12th place Reading, got a 3-2 win against 16th place Wycombe and a narrow 3-2 victory at second bottom Leyton Orient. Hardly setting the league alight and demolishing teams. We comfortably beat Posh 2-0 who are now 7th having won there last 2 games Beat Stevenage 2-1 who are now 11th. and got a narrow victory against Shewsbury who are below Leyton Orient on goal difference. Brum have scored 1 more goal than us in 3 league games, but have also conceded 3 more. Nothing there suggests they will finish above us. We're 2nd in the league! We've won 3 out of 3 league games, having scored 5 and conceded just 1 (an injury time penalty). Yes we could do with another Striker. Yes we could do with a left footed centre back. However, we've probably got the best keeper in the league, the best 2 full back / wing backs in the league, the best centre back in the league and when Balker is back, if he can stay fit for the remainder of the season, that'll give us the 2 best CBs in the league. We've got Midfielders such as Wiles, Evans and Kane who could easily be amongst the best in the league. And, whilst I accept we have a few strikers with dodgy injury records and we do need another one, between the ones we currently have there is goals at this level. But the way you and others bang on you'd think we'd lost our first 3 matches having signed no one over the summer. People talk about us being in the shit if we get a few injuries.....But what happens to Brum if May snaps his ACL at the weekend? Every club in the country (bar Chelsea) struggles if they lose 2 or 3 key players to long term injuries.

If we get promoted, then perhaps another LWB is brought in and Miller becomes back up So 2 goals in 3 games and a few other chances is OK? He'll be one of our main strikers this season as Duff has intimated that he will rotate. As an example, Koroma scored against Stevenage and then got dropped to the bench against Shewsbury. Replaced in the starting 11 by a "kid on loan who looks ok and is only here for a year". And that kid went on to score.

In one of his interviews Duff said he wanted a big striker, who could hold the ball up, link up play and score goals, well Bojan can do the first 2 and and has scored at least one goal in the limited appearances he's made.

Let's not get carried away thinking we are set for an automatic promotion spot just yet. Rub of the green??? How much possession have we had in each of those games? How many shots and shots on target compared to the opposition have we had in those games? Yes Lee Nicholls has had to make saves in each game, but that's his job, that's what he trains all week to do and is the the team to do. And that's what opposition keepers have done for their teams in each game. People say without Nicholls we lose the Shewsbury game and yes he made 2 or 3 saves (and they hit the bar), but non of them were as good as the 2 or 3 saves that their keeper had to make. He made a great reaction save to deny Marshall with a header early on, fractionally slower reflex's and that's a goal. He made a great reaction save in the second half at the near post to deny Marshall from Wards cross. Again, fractionally slower reactions and that's a goal. His save in his 1 on 1 against Healy was excellent. As Town fans we will highlight Healy missing it. However, the keeper did brilliantly, came out, stayed big, then saved it really well with his leg. If he doesn't come out of quick and goes down sooner, Healy scores. Also he did well earlier with Healy's chance from Koroma's reverse pass. closed down really well, stayed big and made it really hard for Healy to hit the corner of the goal, forcing him to shoot wide. We've not particulary had the rub of the green. The opposition have missed a few chances and Nicholls has made some good saves. But in every match, we've missed more chances and the opposition has had to make more good saves than Nicholls. So if we'd have had the rub of the green, we'd have scored 4 or 5 in every game and being out of sight in each on by half time. But yeah, we with 3 wins from 3, 5 goals scored and only 1 conceded from a penalty and currently sitting in 2nd, we don't look capable of potentially getting an automatic spot.

Now the chance beforehand highlights exactly why Ward is shit (I've never said he'll score 30 goals) and we need another striker. A better striker moves a split second earlier and get's on the end of Millar's cross to make it 1-0

What’s your point? Because it really is about the cash though, isn’t it. They’ve spent close to £17m so far; including loan fees (they’re not free and they ain’t cheap). And they have two points less than us. We by contrast have spent far, far less. With Miller, Sorrenson, Evans and Marshall helping us secure 4 wins from 4. We can’t actually do any better than that. I remember a lot of folk discussing Rotherham’s intent in a similar vain. And yet…. So yeah, you must be measuring intent purely by spend.

Pretty sure Nagle has shown he is willing to back the manager 100%. Problem nowadays is greedy agents, greedy players. I don’t think we will do a Brum and just throw money around, it did not end well last time we did that. Do you think Nagle is refusing to back the manager?

Signing Lyndon Dykes from qpr now apparently for 1million A not too dissimilar record to our very own Danny Ward (according to Wiki) and half his games have been in Scottish football plus Ward hasn't always been a striker. Would go down as underwhelming in my book if he came here.

On Friday? Hope the football director/chairman don’t fuck up the great start to season we have had. Still lots of players to be moved on and reinforcements needed. Manager is doing good. Needs backing. 'lots' of players to be moved on? Not sure it will be lots, maybe 2-3 and likely loans reinforcements wanted more than needed, and I am sure there will be 1-2 on that front........

Do you think Nagle is refusing to back the manager? I don't really know what to think, he gave some big comments after relegation and has talked a lot since coming in. Naturally we haven't always seen that talk previously because Hoyle kept his chat internal. The fact is Stockport, Birmingham and Charlton etc are having a serious go. We definitely haven't had a serious go yet, there's a few days to fix that but if we end with what we have now its been an incredibly underwhelming window considering the chat at the start of it.

Getting Sorensen, Kane, Evans, Miller, Marshall, keeping Helik, Nicholls isn’t underwhelming in my book but I appreciate your own opinion. Im not a fan of throwing millions around to make a ‘sign of intent’ I’m more for the bigger picture but understand some people wants things now.

Yes. If you want a proven goalscorer, be prepared to pay the going rate. I'd rather have Alfie May on stupid money scoring a load of goals, than Danny Ward/Kian Harratt/Rhys Healey/Bojan Radulovic getting eight between them. Retweet. Might be a bit harsh on Healey?

Let's be deluded and think Town are going to finish above Birmingham and Danny Ward is going to score 30 goals....... We're going to finish above Birmingham, and you can bookmark this. They're the Chelsea of League 1. Do point me towards a single person claiming Ward will score even half that many. Think most of us have him on a similar number to his golf handicap. Pretty sure he plays off single figures.

Conversely...
We narrowly beat the worst team in the division, were unconvincing against another team that was widely tipped to struggle and were fortunate to catch Peterborough on an off day. Oh, and we knocked the worst team in the EFL out of the cup.
Meanwhile, if Reading play like they did against Brum in every game this season they'll get automatic promotion at a canter.
I'm happy with our start and you can only beat what's in front of you, but Brum are only 2 points behind us and we are yet to play against anyone that's actually good.
We're contenders, but we ain't the favourites for good reason.
