On Friday?
Hope the football director/chairman don’t fuck up the great start to season we have had.
Still lots of players to be moved on and reinforcements needed.
Manager is doing good. Needs backing.

Pretty sure Nagle has shown he is willing to back the manager 100%. Problem nowadays is greedy agents, greedy players. I don’t think we will do a Brum and just throw money around, it did not end well last time we did that.

I don’t know how I feel about this transfer window.
Getting relegated I expected a huge reset, out with the old, in with the new. I understand this is absolutely not as easy as it sounds, and I do believe the mentality is already being reset.
The signings we have made are good, and have improved us, but to be starting with ward and koroma upfront, I didn’t think would happen.
Nagle has invested brilliantly in the stadium, but can you say he’s invested in the squad? Around a million has been spent, and probably around 5m in.
I get the ‘we won’t just sign anyone’ motto, but if you are serious about promotion, go out and spend what’s required for promotion. Get a striker in that will fire us to glory. Things look okay at the moment, Duff seems to be getting a beat from them, but will it last with the same squad as last year!? Injuries will inevitably kick in, do we have strength in depth? Time will tell, but I was expecting more I think. Not quite to the extent of Birmingham, but they seem to be investing in young up and coming talent with a few proven older heads.
Personally I think we are short of 2-3 quality players to really make a push for the top 2.

He's brought in quite a few free transfers and we paid for fee for Sorensen but considering what we will have recouped for Rudoni and Thomas I wouldn't say the manager has been 'backed' at all this window. Thankfully we have a really good grounded manager who appears to be getting positive outcomes out of our current squad. Some praise deserved for that appointment. We definitely need a few new faces in. No excuses now, they gave it the big one on diaries at the start of the summer and throughout the summer. Actions speak louder than words so let's hope they back it up now as after a brilliant start it would be a shame to stuff momentum.

It’s not enough for me atm we look like a top 6 side but will fall short for top 2. We need 3 new signing before Friday for me including a striker in what makes a statement to our rivals.

I'm not expecting much activity this week which is a decision we may rue when injuries etc. start to bite.

Yes the agents and players might be greedy but we can sit here and say that and the market will go right by us. Other teams will and have shown they are willing to do what it takes, are we just going to sit there and moan about how expensive the market is? If we do, it’ll be another season of not having enough firepower, and some glaring weaknesses that the manager will need to paper over. Kev is talking the talk, it’s time to walk the walk otherwise we will waste the opportunity of when we have our strongest squad.

I suppose it’s difficult to move on some of our players. I mean is there much demand for Hudlin for example?

I mean a transfer budget he's committed to..and how much is it..because so far we've recouped more than we've spent this window... Why is he 'hockering'.. ?

I am sure that if Cartwright and co go to Nagle with a player they want, Nagel will give them the okay. Being 'backed' and throwing stupid money is different. Take Alfie May for example, do you think Duff should have been 'backed' and we pay what Brum were offering him? Or would you say that would be throwing money stupidly? Considering, on promotion, it then impacts FFP restrictions.

The window beginning to look like January, in that we have brought players in but not quite in the positions required. We seem to have made one quality signing in Sorensen and because the January window was so poor and we are now at a lower level we look better in midfield than we did last season. We still seem to struggle to find our passing range.

Considering, on promotion, it then impacts FFP restrictions. No I didn't want Alfie May, there's little longevity to his signing as was discussed at the time. Age and question marks over his ability at Championship level. I don't want them to throw stupid money about or just sign anybody either look at Rotherham, I just find it bizarre having talked a pretty big game at the start of the summer they've got themselves in a bit of a position now where we still have glaring needs and there's little talk (admittedly there's a less these days) that we are even close to anything. There's a few days left to correct this but its very obvious we need a LCB (whether thats a loan or perm) an athletic holding midfielder who can control the game and a striker who hopefully is Joe Taylor. That's providing we keep Nicholls Helik etc. Cartwright has had a fair while to prepare targets and attract them to the club, if we fail to deliver the above there's little excuses for the club if and when further injuries impact the playing squad. This isn't a moan post this is a post of hope that the club are recognising they've got a very good manager at this level so by backing him they could get us out of this league at the first attempt.

I mean a transfer budget he's committed to..and how much is it..because so far we've recouped more than we've spent this window... Why is he 'hockering'.. ? For balance: Let us not forget we had a substantial fee (for League One) agreed for May (I don't blame anyone for not getting into a bidding war with Birmingham), Mr Nagle has sanctioned a, reportedly, six figure fee for a stadium he doesn't, yet own, and those employed at the club have been retained despite relegation. That all requires financial backing. Is the, general question, if enough is being spent/done to the first team squad? I am still of the opinion that MD hasn't come to pick up a wage and if he wasn't to be supported he wouldn't have taken the job. Everyone will have an opinion on the quality of the squad at any time in the season. Time will be the judge if any concerns are valid. Looking further forward, if we are successful in getting promoted the squad will require further investment. I don't have a sense that won't happen but it will be needed. I would hope those questions are being addressed.

Average window as it stands imo. The 4 perm incomings have all improved us in areas we were crying out for improvement and Marshall looks useable if a little raw. Retained Helik and Nicholls (fingers crossed) who many expected to leave. Also shifted on most of the dross. Viable L1 level cover in almost all areas.
However I can't see any of Ward, Healey, Koroma, Marshall or Radulovic getting more than about 10 each maximum unless Marshall suddenly spurts in ability or Radulovic suddenly frames himself. Alfie May money is still available, it should be possible at L1 level to get someone decent in to score 15/20 goals for us which would make a massive difference.
Get that and a left footed CB and we're cooking on gas. Don't and we're in the mix but not favourites.

So you would have wanted us to pay 20k a week with a 500k relocation fee for someone who will be 34 at the end of his contract? Given that if he fired us to promotion his wage would be a factor in what we could then spend in the championship? Also matched with other players who are on less than half the 20k May would have got? How would you control that?

I'd doubt the players would be bothered if we were top of the league and the £20k a week striker was scoring all the goals. If we are to go all season with Danny Ward as one of the first choice strikers then the transfer business has ultimately been poor. It was a major issue last season and we haven't really addressed it, apart from signing a young, unproven forward who's barely played a professional game. I'm honestly half expecting Kieran Phillips to return and him be paraded as a new signing, in the same way Brodie Spencer was last season. Nagle was even claiming he was a new signing!

May would more than likely be sat on our bench on 20k a week at 33 in 2 years time. May has never played at championship level so is a huge gamble. If Brum get there, guarantee he will be sat on their bench until his contract ends. Phillips will never make it in England as it is too physical for his body.

We can't be signing 30 plus year olds with no likelihood of receiving a profit/even the same money back on them in the future. Yes it makes the scouting teams job harder to find something similar but thats the nature of the sport now from Premier League down. Its a good job the likes of Man Utd have such high revenues from past success as signing the likes of Casemiro etc would have gone absolutely terrible for them.

Alfie May has scored in all 3 league games so far this season...earning Birmingham 5 points...
and it's not all about splashing the cash as they've brought in on loan .
Ben Davies from Rangers
Alfons Sampsted from FC Twente
Taylor Gardener-Hickman from Bristol City
Luke Harris from Fulham
as well as 10 new signings...
That's showing 'intention' ....
