Where to start... Duff tactically got it wrong It didn't take a genius to know against sides outside the top 8 we don't need Hogg in there, we need a ball playing midfielder in Kane. For me, we wouldn't have renewed his contract. Perenial loser and offers little to nothing at this stage - in fact holds back the side. Behind Spencer, Helik has been our worst performer all season. Looks like another perennial loser, 3 relegation scraps in 3 years with him in the centre of town/Barnsley defences. Helik looks slow even in League 1! Been done on countless occasions, as has Lees and Pearson. Unbelievably slow back 3. Headley - Looks championship standard under NW. Now looks like another of the long list of athletes, not a footballer. Absolutely abysmal today again. Scared to take on his man. Sorrenson - Lightweight, couldn't take on his man, poor delivery, offered nothing again. Had 2 good games all season. League 1 level at best. Hogg - Said it already. Legs gone. offers nothing. perennial loser. Not required in a team pushing for promotion in league 1 with the options wasted on the bench. Wiles - Absolute ghost yet again. Coward of a player, no pace, cant tackle, goes missing. Passenger. Evans; not much better and offered nothing. ... The ref I thought did alright. Didn't think it was a foul for their third and he rightly gave a penalty where most refs wouldn't have given that to us. ... Kane - Glad he finally got minutes. HHas to start the next game replacing Hogg. It simply has to be a more positive line up. Hodge - Came on an got our first shot on target after 61 minutes. Looked to play the ball forward, not backwards. I like what I've seen. Has to start in place of Wiles. ... Really disappointing season yet again. I think we've been poor all season, even at Peterborough. The wing back system fails if Headley cant take on his man and doens't offer anything going forward. Sorrenson is anonymous too. Therein leaves our CM to create when we know Hogg wont pass it forward, Wiles is a ghost and Evans has massively flattered to deceive. It's a big problem. For Blackpool I'd go with... 3-5-2 ---------------------Nicholls---------------- ----------Pearson -- Lonwijk -- Lees ------- Sorrenson ---------------------------------- Koroma ----------- Evans -- Kane -- Hodge --------- ----------- Ladapo ---- Marshall ------------- Can’t disagree with that 11. If only we could replace Pearson and lees as well. How have we ended up with all these aging centre-halves ?

Tuesday we have to make some changes. Go with a back 4 like we ended the game.
Nicholls
Spencer Lees helik longwijk
Kane hodge Wiles
Marshall ladapo koroma
Positives from the game for me yesterday.
1. Ladapo looks like he can hold the ball properly. Not had anyone like that in a long time.
2. When we went to a back 4, Longwijk looked good at Left Back.
3. Even though the performance was dire, we didn't drop our heads at 3-0 and I genuinely think, of the pen goes in we win 4-3.
4. The result was needed. Glad it's come so early as now the squad and management know we can't think it's going to be easy.

If Hodge and Kane don’t start on Tuesday then Duff has to be questioned. I’d go further and start all five subs from today. Lapado looked promising and hungry, Spencer got stuck in, Kane and Hodge looked to make things happen and Bojan put himself about. Helik was awful, looked disinterested and clueless. At fault for two goals; I reiterate what the hell was he doing passing back at that speed in that position? He isn’t a captain for me. We looked like the handbrake came off once Hogg was off too. How many times did he his arms and whine today? You’re part of the problem mate. Headley should never wear a Town shirt again. He’s garbage and has had too many chances to make the shirt his. Stunned with today’s result but you know what, maybe we needed it. I expected us to walk it today and maybe the players did. A short sharp shock which will only have been worthwhile if we beat cabbage head on Tuesday. Think your last paragraph sums it up. After last week’s result most people, probably including the players thought all we had to do was turn up and we’d win. It just proves you’ve got to be on it every game otherwise you’ll end up with yesterdays’ result. Duff’s got work to do between now and Tuesday. Not only is a change of players needed, so is a change of attitude.

Just seen the first goal. Helik to blame but looks like Nicholls should just play it out wide to Headley or even launch it up field rather than putting the centre backs under pressure.

That is the worst I’ve felt watching/leaving a Town match since play-off final. I could forgive them the last couple of seasons because I thought they just weren’t good enough, and think most would agree. This season though, we’re supposed to be better. Posh and Bolton results suggested we might be, but we’ve now had three very unconvincing home league performances in a row which culminated in that shit show. A proper team could cope with the debacle that was their first goal. But no, as usual, heads go down and players start hiding. Even when given a huge get out of jail card - penalty, 10 men and potentially 12 mins to find an equaliser - we cock that up too. That midfield three doesn’t work. We don’t need three centre halves. We’ve got rid of our wingers. Two points a game prob gets you promoted, but they were miles off today and the inconsistency is a huge worry. Not good enough. Yep spot on, felt like a proper kick in the stomach leaving the game yesterday. Watching town at times over the last 5 or 6 years as been painful . The speed in which we go from back to front at times is bordering on criminal and the negative feeling it’s leaving amongst the fan base is bound to have an effect on fans continuing to support this club on a regular basis. Town need to rid themselves of players who have been here far too long. This year a new plan at home needs developing because we can’t carry on with the tactics we have for the first three. Too slow too predictable.

Not only is a change of players needed, so is a change of attitude. Duff gets quite defensive in his pressers when there is a suggestion that we should be beating these ‘lesser’ teams. Yet the evidence is that we approach these games with the wrong attitude. We’ve played 3 of those teams at home and only put in 1 semi decent 45 minutes. The other 225 minutes have reeked of indiscipline, low tempo and sloppiness. To me he’s either allowing them to be too over confident or he’s strangling the teams ability to express themselves by putting the fear of god into them. Personally, the fact he’s played Hogg yesterday says to me it’s closer to the latter. Freak results happen but this is the 3rd poor performance against a mid to lower table side.

Duff three at the back plus Hogg means we are way too deep and slow. It’s really simple to see so I just don’t get why he doesn’t go four but of course it’s his style of play and he seems clueless when the opposition block out our wingbacks

It was just piss poor all round tbh

its been obvious for a while that this team is not good enough for a promotion push, the home games we have won the opposition have had chances to take the lead beforew we scored but did not take them, northampton did,its weak all over the pitch,im not going to single players out but as a collective its piss poor

I said prior to the game Hogg should not play,he has and offered nothing, though he wasn’t the worst out there. Selection wise I do totally think he got it wrong though. Wiles and evans I agree have looked poor for a good few games, however I think a large reason for that is nobody getting the ball to them in the areas duff wants them to,he wants them to play higher but if no one gets the ball off the centre halves and can make the passes to them in those areas they’re redundant really. Duff also said after the game in this system you’re only as good as your wing backs to a point. Both had poor games.I think there is something to work with with both of them,Sorensen is generally decent going forward but needs cover behind him,iv plenty time for lees but with wing backs playing high and Spencer now fit I’d sit him out. Headley has qualities but he wouldn’t be starting if miller was fit,it’s all mental with headley I think he’s very weak mentally,as soon as a couple of things didn’t go right and crowd murmoured he went under and got worse. I think on Kane if he had been as fit as the rest in pre season he’d have started the season, then he’s picked up the injury and that’s why he won’t have started yesterday.Wiles and evans are very similar so for me now Kane is back play him and one of the other 2. Young hodge looks a decent player and duff said he was the only one to come out of the game with any credibility.I’d expect him to play Tuesday.Whether that’s in place of Hogg or one of wiles/evans in not sure what he’ll do but for me the changes I’d make would be Spencer for lees(meaning pace either side of Helik which as you point out would be a good thing),I’d swap hodge for Hogg and Kane for evans or wiles, probably wiles as evans is a good set piece taker(not that we’ve seen that yet) Headley will probably end up starting as miller won’t be back.Unless we change shape and go 4-3-3 like we did yesterday second half. If that’s the case Spencer Helik lonwijk and then maybe Ruffels?although I’m not a fan of him. With midfield of hodge,Kane, evans and koroma and Marshall either side of ladapo.

I'm the same - I felt at a complete loss with it as I was walking to my car. It's always felt like we would somehow bounce back from all the misery over the past 6-7 years but today was a serious low point and I'm struggling to see how this crop of players achieves much more than mid-table. I mean no disrespect to Northampton but you could see/hear how big of a win they saw today as. Their third goal scorer giving it large in front of the South Stand, their fans in absolute raptures for their second etc. Total embarrassment. The boos at half time were louder than when we got relegated. You could feel the anger today. It wasn't just about today. We've had years of watching that type of shit, our home form since 2017 must be the worst in the entire league. How many times did we conceded 4 at home last year? We thought dropping down might at least give us some respite from that shit. But NO. We are just watching the same old shite but now in the 3rd tier. When will it fucking end?? People said the same in the 70s we ended up in division 4 that’s were it ended then and I even after the Buxton revival we eventually descended to the bottom tier , it might happen again but I doubt this year be Mid table mediocrity imo

With Spencer back fit now and lonwijk in the building I’d be playing those two either side of Helik. With how we want to play this system with wing backs high and two midfielders high pace behind that is key. Lonwijk and Spencer with hodge in front adds much more of its than playing lees and Hogg.

Whenever he tries those dinks over a defender out towards the touchline it nearly always seems to go over their heads in to the ball boys arms. Granted that would have been a better outcome than a goal but it was probably in his mind when making the pass and he wouldn't have expected one of his own players to then twat it past him in to his own goal

Agree totally with a lot of these comments but I'm afraid we are stuck with another stubborn bastard of a manager who just will not drop certain players for the good of the team.Hodge and Kane like some have said on here have to start Tuesday and Hoggy and Wiles out of the side simple as that will it happen, absolutely not Duff just doesn't have the nuts to do it so this negative, ineffective dross football will continue possibly until we are half way down the table and the penny finally drops,if at all.

As far as midfield goes, Hogg, Wiles and Evans out, Hodge, Kane and Iorpenda in. Iorpenda can bring the energy that is so lacking right now. Hogg was awful at playing forward and having any spatial awareness, it’s too late to teach these things to him and we must move on. Evans and Wiles are probably a victim of circumstances as Hogg struggled to play pass and move with both Sorensen and Headley. Headley particularly lost the plot with a bollocking from Hogg and the crowd on the back of players. Upfront I’d stay with Koroma and bring in Ladapo. Harsh on Marshall as he does a lot of the graft to press. So for me we need to go: Nichols Spencer Helik Lonwijk Sorensen Iorpenda Hodge Kane Headley (lucky to keep his place) Ladapo Koroma

Granted that would have been a better outcome than a goal but it was probably in his mind when making the pass and he wouldn't have expected one of his own players to then twat it past him in to his own goal Yeah agree with that to be honest. He's very hesitant on the ball. Even with the ball in arms he's always looked confused on which option to take. I'd have just as many questions for him on why his legs were so wide apart on that third goal. I bet their lad couldn't believe it, pretty much an open invitation to slot it through there for a simple goal

When I read the first bit of your post I disagreed straight away. The bit about duff getting it wrong tactically, however reading on you seemingly are more meaning his selection not the setup. Agree with dropping Lees. Both Lees and Helik are both slow and are a bomb scare together. I’d be happy to see us drop one of the two and stick Spencer on his more natural side. So for me we need to go: Nichols Spencer Helik Lonwijk Sorensen Iorpenda Hodge Kane Headley (lucky to keep his place) Ladapo Koroma Would agree with your team for Tuesday apart from Koroma. I know he's scored a few goals this season but yesterday proved he's no football brain whatsoever. He's still that one trick pony he's always been and that penalty was pitiful. Just because Bolton's keeper jumped out of the way leaving an open goal to aim at virtually before Koroma had started his run up don't assume that all keepers are going to do that. Get some power behind it and aim for the corners.

But it is hard to drop someone who is scoring consistently.

Tuesday we have to make some changes. Go with a back 4 like we ended the game. Nicholls Spencer Lees helik longwijk Kane hodge Wiles Marshall ladapo koroma Positives from the game for me yesterday. On your number 4 point haven’t we already seen similar collapses at Walsall and Rotherham?

Think your last paragraph sums it up. After last week’s result most people, probably including the players thought all we had to do was turn up and we’d win. It just proves you’ve got to be on it every game otherwise you’ll end up with yesterdays’ result. Duff’s got work to do between now and Tuesday. Not only is a change of players needed, so is a change of attitude. Most managers get defencive after a defeat. Maybe you forget what we have been playing like for the last few years. After some good results but not quite so good performances a lot of people on here have certainly have. We have started to clear out some of the old players but not fast enough we have brought in a few new players who seem to have adopted our style of hiding from the ball behind other players or the referee. Duff needs more time and I know we have heard that before with some of the other managers we have had, but I live in hope that we may see some improvement this time. If not we will have to wait until we have a big clearout at the end of the season and hope that Cartwright gets his act together.

That's too many for a side used to losing but like you say in time I'm sure Duff will get it right (he could start on Tuesday by at least bringing Hodge in for Hogg). But it will probably take more than just this season.

Wouldn’t be against iorpenda Kane and hodge however I feel like maybe hodge and Kane coming in might in turn improve the fortunes of a wiles or an evans. For me I’d go with evans as he’s a direct set piece threat should we ever get any and he’s also a bit more of a physical presence. That said wouldnt be against iorpenda also. Question will be what minutes can Kane complete at this point after the injury,if it’s less than 45 then you can’t really start him. I’d also look at ladapo and koroma and when ladapo starts blowing bring on Marshall’s energy. Centre back wise leave Helik,he’s our best defender if it’s between him and lees.He might settle down with genuine pace either side of him.

If he’s given a chance, it’s a great opportunity for him to establish himself in the midfield of a promotion hopeful.

Agree that Iorpenda needs to be given a chance. We are really lacking from having the ability to run at teams. I watched an old clip of one of our games recently when we had Kasey Palmer. What a job he did for us, never static and always positive. We really need to inject our midfield with this kind of quality.

Listen to Ben "the invisable man " Wiles and it will tell you all , what you need to know about our squad of players and their "standards". What he came out with shows exactly what is wrong with the team and the club as a whole and it will cost us.
