Wagner had better be careful here. They were playing a select 11 (of 6th and 7th division players) from the town of Bottrop (15 minute drive away from Schalke) to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its change from village to town status (granting of town ordinances and privileges). Now, I dare say that Bottrop has many Schalke fans, but I can't see the folk of Bottrop being too impressed at how Wagner had his players geared up for all-out slaughter for what was supposed to be a day of celebration. Even the surprisingly athletic looking Bottrop players were visibly stunned at how much effort Schalke were (needlessly?) putting into this game. And must have been slightly bemused at the ruthless attitude Schalke brought with them.
Add to this that most Bottrop players had probably had a swift gallon before the game, and it brings home what a monumental mismatch this was. For me, it would be like having a playful mock boxing match with Mike Tyson on your birthday, only to find out he's punching for real. I.e. slapped in the chops on your birthday, it's not on.
How would people feel if Dewsbury were celebrating the 100th anniversary of its municipal rights, put out a select pub-team 11 for a bit of fun, and then Town came over and thumped them 20-1? Most folk wouldn't like it, I'm sure.

I wouldn't worry. He'll soon knock that out of them. Unbelievable Or maybe he won’t have to rely on cheap gambles / major signings that had only started 13 games before... A few of you may get a shock this season - For Wagner to 1. Get us promoted 2. Keep us up with the squad and budget he had was a miracle. The season we won promotion we won 23 games by a goal, only 3 by more than 1. Some of you say that was we were negative, I say what utter nonsense - all down to game management, professionalism, getting the most out of the team Let’s see where we finish this season with apparently (according to most on here - not my view) a stronger team than we got promoted with without Wagner Not sure why you used the term "Unbelievable", when that is what absolutely happened here. It's history though, I wish the guy well, but trying to prove a point against totally mismatched opposition may well come to bite him on the arse somewhere down the line. If he's learnt from his mistakes here, he may well do well at Schalke, if he hasn't, they'll be average.

I really don’t think he was ‘trying to prove a point’...I’m pretty sure he was just playing an arranged pre season friendly to get minutes into legs When you say it was ‘absolutely what happened here’ ...Who exactly did he ‘knock it out of’ ?!?! When taking over the championships 16-19th best team year on year

Those that you can't list, are the ones I'm referring to.

I’ve asked you to support your comment that it ‘absolutely happened’ You’ve not given a single example to support your comment Let me help you - Wells scored less in the season we won promotion than the previous season My answer to that wasn’t he ‘knocked it out of him’, but he was playing in a different system not focussed on him and one in which we got more out of the team and had other players contributing Kachunga scoring 13, number 10s scores 13 etc - and one focussed on results

Scored a score......won't be long before 'no scores' keep cropping up.

You can guarantee that if Town had won a warm up game 20-1, there would be loads on here complaining about our keeper conceding.

Seems a bit harsh to keep banging them in once you approached double figures?! Surprised Wagner let it happen tbh!
I expect he’ll do well there, very well.
