News like this, for me, trivialises the whys and wherefores of where our club stands and what's happening. I'm absolutely gutted. Rob Burrow and his demise really hit home to me, and this ramps it up even more so. A legend of my time watching Town, a talent, a hero, and a good bloke. When I lived in Dewsbury and he did too (in the houses built on the old hospital) he once drove past when I was heading out to my car in my town shirt. He slowed down, stopped, wound his window down, and we chatted for a minute or so. He was a legendary drinker in Dewsbury/Batley Carr. Bless him and hopefully he stays strong for as long as possible. It's going to be a difficult 'watch' but it will bring more attention to a truly horrible disease. In the late 70's I used to stay with my friend in Dewsbury, and we would play cards in the werkin mens, and then go to Ma Peels - it was an education for me.

When I worked with Town I was told some stories from ex players like Boothy and other staff and it confirmed what folks around the area at the time he was at the club were saying about Marcus ...his womanising his drinking it’s gone down in legend the reason he left the club when we were so high up he ruffled feathers because of his shenanigans( he did the same at Ipswich remember the training ground incident didn’t a player head butt him ) a bit like the late great Frankie, but, bloody hell he could play football what a striker, God bless him in his fight against this horrible disease

My all time Town hero. Has anyone any idea where I can get a shirt with his name on from when he was with us? I signed up to do the ‘Rob Burrow Marathon’ in Leeds early next year months ago (an event to raise money & awareness of MND) and can think of no better way to do it than running through Leeds in a Town top dedicated to Marcus. Do Town do retro kits from that time? If not, I guess it’s a case of trawling eBay, even if I need to get it printed somewhere myself. Unless anyone has any better thoughts? I have one of the ecru pony ones, sponsored by Panasonic. I think it's a large, but the label has been cut out. I can measure it if necessary. You're welcome to borrow it, but I won't be at the two games this coming week. I'm sure the shop will be able to put a name and number on.

Just had a look - they sell this one as a retro shirt on the Town website, although I appreciate you might not want to spend £40 for a one-off occasion

It would only take 30 people to give Teddington £2 so they could buy and name a Panasonic top for the marathon. I would.

That’s very kind of you but would probably be a bit tight, even after another 6 months of training!

Although far from rich I have a steady enough job and am happy to fund the shirt myself - it was sourcing one that was the issue. DutchTownFan has one in my size he has very kindly offered to lend me if I don’t find one myself beforehand. Now I know the club sell the retro one that may be the best bet and I can hopefully get them to print it too.

I've only just seen this thread and I'm absolutely gutted.
Stewy was an absolute hero to me when I was 14 or 15 and was the best natural finisher town have ever had. Should have had an England call up on the back of the season he had at Ipswich after leaving us also.
He used to live near my childhood home on Cowcliffe Hill Road opposite the park and would occasionally join me and my mate for a kick about if he saw us.
Really down to earth guy with a great sense of humour and always made time for supporters, young and old.
My best wishes to you Marcus in your fight against this awful condition. You gave me some of my happiest memories watching town.

Dreadful news for Marcus Stewart & family. Marcus Stewart was much loved by Town fan's, many struggled to understand why he was sold, to a promotion rival & the rest is history. Good luck Marcus Stewart & family.

We bumped into him and hus family staying at Jebel Ali Hotel in Dubai about 5 years back. Neil Harris and Stephen Hendry were also staying there. He was happy to stop and chat for 10 mins. Got him a beer in (which as a Yorkshireman we were all inclusive) - Top bloke and up there as one of the best strikers in a Town shirt in my 50+ years watching. Terible news.

Might mean you have to have your picture on social media, but might also boost your sponsorship?

Used to play 5 a side with a mate who was ex Cheltenham Brissle Rovers and Newport.
Came up through the ranks with Marcus.
Said he’d picked Marcus up from a night club steps !
Always was a bit of a lad.
No judgement we’ve all been there.

Amazing really that we were able to sign such a talent, why were all the other clubs sleeping on him? Remember the Gas manager at the time, Ian Holloway, saying that "Marcus is wasting his talent going to a club like Huddersfield". I was a bit salty about that at the time, but given Holloway's often sympathetic take on us as a pundit, I don't think it was intended as a dig. On balance he was probably right, Stewart was way too good a player to only be a "one season wonder" in the top flight.

You wouldn't wish that disease on your worst enemy...most people die after a couple of years after diagnosis,,mainly down to not being able to control lung function
Best town player of my era...well maybe not quite...Steve kindon will take some beating
All the best Marcus..your in our thoughts

Walking out of Wembley after the 95' play off final their was only one name on everyone's lips after a magical display from Marcus, it was like a dream come true when he signed & repaid the club many times over with his performances on the pitch, needless to say he became a Town legend & would be difficult to keep out of any all time eleven team, a top bloke & good laugh off the pitch too, although not the best drinker....keep fighting Stewy.

Proved that by being top English goalscorer in the Premier League (ahead of Alan Shearer, Michael Owen, Andy Cole etc) the season after he left us when playing for Ipswich.
