I might have said this before... one of the best strikers we have had in my lifetime. THE best striker in my lifetime (born 73) by a long shot. Close call between him and Mooy for best footballer in my lifetime. 5 years younger than you, but... Ditto.

Personally I'd have Mooy a close second to Marcus Stewart but both were great. Or to quote mosher... "a close call". Stewart the best HTFC player to play up front in my time as a fan though? Undoubtedly.

As Paul Simon said - "every generation has its hero in the pop charts" - step forward - Frank Worthington.

I'll never forget that feeling of knowing Marcus was in the team. I always believed we could win, always, no matter how bad things seemed. Whoever we were playing, I knew the best player on the pitch was playing for us. Even though he's well remembered, I still think people don't fully realise just how good he was. He had some of the rarest qualities you can find in any footballer. The way time slowed down for him, the extra touches that you were sure were going to feck it up but were actually perfect, the slight appearance of ungainliness masking a graceful and sublime mastery of the ball, his intelligent reading of every situation, his otherworldly calmness and composure, he had the ethereal aura of a man operating on a different plane to everyone else. For me, not just a Town legend and our best player of the last 60 (arbitrary number) years, but also a Le Tissier-esque lost/overlooked all-time talent of English football in general.

Marcus always reminded me of Dalglish, albeit a lesser version. Short on pace but quick of thought. When you follow a generally unsuccessful team, you particularly remember the good players and he was at the top in the almost 45 years I’ve watched Town. Mooy an extremely close second mind.

The posts above comparing Stewart to Mooy got me thinking:
Imagine if Stewart had played in the Wagner promotion team. We wouldn't have had a minus goal difference, and I doubt we'd have needed the play offs to get promoted.

A great shame I'm just a bit too young to remember him.
I asked my Dad if he was as good as everyone else makes out and he said "Yes". And he isn't one to say such a thing lightly.
He must have been good!

"Goals for a northern town"
Just seen it on YouTube, sixty eight of the very best.
What a player Marcus was, and what a cruel twist his life has now taken. Good luck mate, you will forever be a Town legend.

Tragic disease for anyone to be diagnosed with. Heartbreaking to see the effect it’s having on our former captain in that video.

Tragic disease for anyone to be diagnosed with. Heartbreaking to see the effect it’s having on our former captain in that video. Bloody awful disease, they want to forget giving Kevin Sinfield a knighthood and sort him with a Lordship for all the fundraising and awareness he's done this last 3 or 4 years. He is a beacon of strength to the MND community
