Adam Leventhal - the Watford reporter for the Athletic confirms we are in advanced talks for Healey. £2 million!
Story:
Huddersfield Town are in advanced talks with Watford over the signing of striker Rhys Healey.
The 29-year-old is close to completing a permanent transfer for a fee in the region of £2 million.
The Englishman joined Watford as a free agent from Toulouse six months ago, signing a two-year deal with the option of a third.
Healey has scored two goals and provided one assist in 13 games this season.
Watford will look to sign a replacement striker this month.
Watford take on Bristol City at Vicarage Road on Saturday while Huddersfield take on Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on the same day.

Sounds a lot for a 29 year old who's mainly played in the lower leagues.

Quite excited by this one. Watford fans saying he’d be very good in a 2 and been under utilised there.
Kev is certainly putting his money where his mouth is and I don’t think anyone can accuse him of being all talk. This is going to be the third £1m plus signing (with Balker) under his tenure in 6 months or so.
The question is, can Darren Moore get the best out of these new signings or is it just going to be the exact same…

Ask him to play a solo central striking role linking play he will probably look nowhere near 2 mills worth…create chances for him and ask him to put them away he probably will. Seems ideal partner for Radulovic to be honest, you would just prefer to have someone else to be able to rest him though as already picked up a strain and might need dropping to bench at right time.another link up man such as Radulovic as an option would be nice, but admittedly I’m asking a lot there in one January window.ward can do that job but doesn’t seem like he fancies it anytime soon.

£2 million😬 2 goals in 11 games hmm, weren’t we linked with him in the summer? Or to be abit more accurate, two goals in 196 minutes of Championship football this season.

£2 million😬 2 goals in 11 games hmm, weren’t we linked with him in the summer? The scouting report above says those 11 games amounted to 205 minutes actual playing time, so it’s almost a goal a game. 58 goals in 116 games at the many different levels he’s played at.

If it were me I'd be going for a loan here, unless Burgzorg is out for longer than expected? Bojan is in the long term plan, Healey at 2m would have to be as well to justify the investment.

The price reflects the fact we are absolutely desperate and everyone can see it. At least we aren’t leaving it to the final day and ballsing it up like we did with Adebayo.

£2m sounds steep but it I reckon it will include instalments for promotion, goals etc
I would look at the maths this way
Say he costs £1.5m (disregarding the instalments like promotion) and we pay him £0.5m a year in wages for 3 years. The total outlay is £3m
If this lad bags 15 goals a season for the next three years. Is 15 goals a season at this level worth £1m a year? Probably

Or my take is yes we are desperate but Mr Nagle is not stupid so doubtful that he would spend for no reason and maybe these prices are a drop in the ocean for him. We aren’t talking 15-20 million. If it’s 2 million to sign a player permanently that isn’t unknown compare that to £1 million for ESR for effectively 3-4 months service. Not saying it was wasted just that like previously posted it’s 2024 and these sums are nothing.

"SPEND SOME BLOODY MONEY NAGLE". 2. "[The prices] we're paying shows that we are absolutely desperate."

Sounds a lot for a 29 year old who's mainly played in the lower leagues. it's 2024. It's also the January window. Unless there's someone whose contract runs out this summer & wants to leave, you're not getting any bargains at this time of year. We're not in a strong negotiating position. We kind of have to take what we can get AND pay over the odds for it, or go without.

Indication of how desperate we are paying this kind of money for a 29 year old with no real record at this level.

Indication of how desperate we are paying this kind of money for a 29 year old with no real record at this level. We only think like that because we rarely spend anything over 1m. Other clubs wouldn't bat an eyelid at it but we've been on the bread line for so long.

But at least he’s doing it.

It’s quite simple really. When he joined Watford in the summer he was out of contract at his previous club. Though that means Watford don’t pay a fee to his former club, Healey’s agent will negotiate the amount that would have been paid to the former club to be paid to Healey. The reported £2m that Town will be paying will be to reimburse Watford for the lump sum they paid to Healey.

2m for someone with a 1 in 8 record at this level.
Would we pay half of that for Danny Ward who has 1 in 6?
We would all say absolutely not.
In my opinion, this will be a Waste of money.
