Deepest condolences Ben to you and your wife. As a father of two, I know what a bond you strike up with children from the moment that they are born and what you want for them in their life. To have that snatched away at any age is terrible, but to one so young it is an absolute tragedy. I hope you got some good memories while he was with you. My best wishes go out to you both at this time of grief

Just wanted to make you all aware of this. Last Wednesday on the 17th of September Ben and his wife Amanda welcomed their first child, James Greaves into the world, he was handed to his dad on a blue and white blanket and officially declared a town fan. I've only got to really know Ben well over the last few months as we've built up the NSL, but I was overjoyed for him, as a dad myself. Ben was due to go to Elland Road on Saturday to support his team, but a message came through that he wouldn't be attending as his boy was poorly and had been taken to hospital. Initially I wasn't aware of how ill James was, but over the next few days the seriousness of the situation became evident, he was in intensive care with the life support machine supporting his breathing. Ben rang me yesterday to tell me they were facing the impossible decision of whether to stop the care, or continue in the hope that the little one may some signs of recovery. Sadly all the tests and scans indicated that James was suffering from extensive brain damage. Young James gained his angel wings last night, with his family at his bedside, he is now resting peacefully and I'm sure you'll all join me and the rest of us that have been supporting Ben, in passing on our heartfelt condolences at such a tragic loss. R.I.P James, your life was too short, but you were and always will be remembered as a town fan. Sleep tight. X I just wanted to say a massive thank you for the incredible support from my town supporting mates. Especially the lads who I've worked on the NSL with. They have given me great support and they know who they are. Obviously I'm devasted but my baby son James will not be forgotten for one moment. I'm incredibly grateful for the thoughts and prayers, I owe a huge debt to those lads who have helped me through the worse 5 days I'm ever likely to live through. Once again, thanks. Ben the Greenkeeper. Ben and Amanda...I've said everything i can say to you in the most difficult of circumstances yet still none of it seems to make any sense....I'm devastated for you Ben yet i've only really known you for 9 months or so...I'm there for you mate whenever...and i mean whenever....We've spoken and messaged so much over the past 9 months whilst setting up the NSL and now all of that pales in to insignificance compared to what you two must be going through...Rest in peace baby James...God bless

Town fans moan, groan, curse and swear about the football but when a fellow supporter is going through a difficult time there are no bigger fans with bigger hearts anywhere. Proud to be a terrier

Ben, I don't know you personally and I haven't posted on here in years, but I wanted to add my words to the others expressing their condolences. Last year a member of my family went through something very similar, and although the pain never goes away, with the support of friends and family it does ease as time passes. Look after yourself and your nearest and dearest. Life can be horribly unfair at times, but events like this make you realise what's important. Thinking of you. RIP little James.

Absolutely gutted for you Ben.
Only known you for a short period of time via the NSL but as other have said you are a top man and its a desperately cruel hand you've been dealt. Why is it the good guys in life always seen to get a raw deal?
With our lass about to drop any day now reading this tread and the PMs has moved me to tears on more than one occasion.
RIP James. Sleep tight little man. I'm sure your spirit will live on in the lives of those who loved you most.
