Just wanted to make you all aware of this.
Last Wednesday on the 17th of September Ben and his wife Amanda welcomed their first child, James Greaves into the world, he was handed to his dad on a blue and white blanket and officially declared a town fan. I've only got to really know Ben well over the last few months as we've built up the NSL, but I was overjoyed for him, as a dad myself. Ben was due to go to Elland Road on Saturday to support his team, but a message came through that he wouldn't be attending as his boy was poorly and had been taken to hospital. Initially I wasn't aware of how ill James was, but over the next few days the seriousness of the situation became evident, he was in intensive care with the life support machine supporting his breathing. Ben rang me yesterday to tell me they were facing the impossible decision of whether to stop the care, or continue in the hope that the little one may some signs of recovery. Sadly all the tests and scans indicated that James was suffering from extensive brain damage. Young James gained his angel wings last night, with his family at his bedside, he is now resting peacefully and I'm sure you'll all join me and the rest of us that have been supporting Ben, in passing on our heartfelt condolences at such a tragic loss.
R.I.P James, your life was too short, but you were and always will be remembered as a town fan. Sleep tight. X

X I just wanted to say a massive thank you for the incredible support from my town supporting mates. Especially the lads who I've worked on the NSL with. They have given me great support and they know who they are. Obviously I'm devasted but my baby son James will not be forgotten for one moment. I'm incredibly grateful for the thoughts and prayers, I owe a huge debt to those lads who have helped me through the worse 5 days I'm ever likely to live through. Once again, thanks. Ben the Greenkeeper.

Very well articulated.
Difficult to imagine much worse things in life. Only people who've been there can possibly imagine what it's like.
RIP James.

This is very sad.
I've only recently chatted to Ben for the first time, and he's a very nice and likeable guy. It's an awful thing to happen to a nice and decent couple. All the best to you Ben and your family, and if you want to keep your mind off of things, then come and join the lads down at Canalside and we'll look after you.
All the best mate.

Wow. My heartfelt condolences for Ben and his wife at this awful time. We are fortunate to have had two healthy children who are both now in their mid-twenties. I hope and trust that Ben and his wife will enjoy similar fortune in the future.
There's no comparison really, but six weeks ago our beloved Staffie Bella suffered a slipped disk. She's almost 12 now and we were only able to bring her home this last Monday. She'll need continued help and physiotherapy possibly for months yet to try to get her back to normal, but we love her and so we'll do it.

This time last week I was on the phone with Ben chatting about the birth of young James, both of us very upbeat. What an awful turn of events and a terrible week for Ben and his family.
RIP James x

Thoughts with you Ben. Hard to comprehend this kind of thing unless you have been through it.
The match will be a welcome (if brief) distraction.
RIP James
